St Enda (born 21 March)

Born in Co. Meath, St Enda founded the early Irish monasteries on the Aran Islands.

Enda started life as a fierce warrior, but was persuaded by his sister Franchea (founder of a community of nuns) to change his violent ways and be ordained.

Aran island  became a centre of learning and missionary prayer, and had a 500 year legacy.

Enda died in AD 530.
