St Mura (born 11 March)

Born into the O’Neill clan (ad. 550), St. Mura was appointed Abbot of Fahan by St. Columba.  He is the writer of many books and texts, and his legacy is perhaps best shown through his successor, St. Fothad na Canoine, who ensured that women and clerics were not conscripted to fight in battles.

PRAYER:

Lord, we thank you for the life of St. Mura.

Please teach us to follow the path of non-violence and peace,

no matter what the provocation may be.

“They shall beat their swords into ploughshares and their spears into pruning hooks;

nation shall not lift sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore”.

(Isiah 2:4)
